Well I am finally home!
Where did I got you ask?
As you might know on Thanksgiving night I had to be rushed my ambulance to the ER (no I didn't eat too much at dinner). I felt like I was having a heart attack, which was thankfully ruled out within 10 minutes of arriving. Then after a few more tests they said I had gallstones and would need them out. I have no idea why they didn't do that immediately, but maybe the holiday made then short staffed people (I am choosing not to dwell on that).
So I toughed it out over the weekend waiting patiently till Monday morning to call the surgeon I used for my hernia a few years ago. I was so upset that he couldn't fit me in this week and mostly likely not even the next week. So he sent me to the ER and said he would call down there to explain the situation. I had the best staff in the ER and after they took another ex ray and sonogram they called in a surgeon. The surgeon did an exam and asked me tons of questions and said that I would be having the gallbladder out right away. Within an hour I was in the OR. Whoever said its an easy surgery and a quick was wrong. I was out for almost 2 hours and although I had the 4 little scars, 3 are about 1 " and the 4th (by the belly button) is almost 3". Evidently it was abnormal and harder to get out. But what about me is ever 'normal'? That was all on Monday so I should have been able to go home early Tuesday morning, since its usually a day operation.
Tuesday brought its own problems, my Blood Oxygen was in the 70s so I had to wear a full mask all the time. It was getting harder for me to breathe. Then the doctor did some gross thing, he stuck a tube down my nose into my my lung or stomache area to relieve the pocket of whatever gasses and goo was there. This finally helped me breathe. Plus they kept me pretty drugged up last night since I couldn't sleep at all the night before.
I woke up today and by 10:00 the doctor had been in and said I could go home! All I remember is trying to call Tim and falling asleep before he answered, but I guess he got the hint anyway.
So that's my story of this week so far.
Plus its also my son Eric's birthday. We had 1 week with him before he was taken from us, but I have to believe that Eric was in heaven watching over me and helped make me better. Its almost like I could feel him with me. As a matter of fact in one of my dreams last night I was hugging him, which to me was a wonderful gift from him.

SILVER SURFER COVER GALLERY - PART THE FOURTH...
Amd here we go with the last batch of the original eighteen issue run of 1960s' SILVER SURFER comic covers. The first five are (I think) by Jaunty JOHN BUSCEMA ('though, truth to tell, I have my doubts about #17), and the final one is by Happy HERB TRIMPE, the interior art being by Jolly JACK KIRBY. Unfortunately, although critically well-received (and fondly remembered), sales were not as expected on the series and issue eighteen proved to be the last.
Plans had been afoot to change the direction of the series, making the Surfer much more angry at the injustices meted out to him by the human race and reacting accordingly, but they never materialised. The Surfer went on to become a founding member of the 'non-team' THE DEFENDERS in the '70s, and starred in a one-shot SS issue by JOHN BYRNE in 1982, before being resurrected in his own ongoing title in 1987. He has also appeared in various graphic novels and limited series over the years, ensuring that we're not bound to forget the star-spanning surfer of the spaceways anytime soon.
He was never better 'though, than in his original '60s run, so enjoy these cataclysmic covers from the past when comics were far more entertaining and much better value for money than they are now. A complete story in a comic (even with continuing sub-plots), as opposed to being spread across seemingly countless issues and different titles where nothing much happens and there are too many 'talking head' shots? Methinks the comic creators of yesteryear were onto something.
Level 7 Final project sep-dec 2011
Well, we got to the third term. Time to work on finishing the project. But what's the project about? well, we are designing a campaign for our most important event. "Chinita's Fair". This time the products created for the campaign will be exhibit it in our URBE EFL Center in SL.
An advertising campaign is a specific course of action designed to advertise a company, cause, or product that employs an intentional and carefully coordinated series of marketing tools in order to reach the target audience. The end purpose of any ad campaign is to boost awareness of the subject matter and generate demand. The exact structure of the advertising campaign will often depend on the nature of the product or cause and the target audience that the campaign is designed to reach.
While specifics vary from one advertising campaign to another, some of the same tools are used in just about any campaign. Both print and electronic media are often used to generate attention and enthusiasm for the subject of the campaign, often with the logical and timely launch of different tools at specific points in the overall campaign. While in time past, electronic media referred more to television and radio broadcasts, that component now includes tools such as online banner ads, text messaging, and email advertisements.
We have to thank professor Nuris Zambrano for the help she gave us in this project. On her visit to our class she left us some guidelines on how to work with a campaign:
Graphic Concept:
Selecting key words
2- 3 meaningful terms
Singtagmatic relation
Rhetoric
Main features of the event:
Composition: format orientation, diagram and reticule
Design determiners:
selecting the image style
color
fonts
graphic elements
Graphems
Visual rhetoric
Semiotics
Advertising: message alignment and heading
PNL
Final Project Groups:
Group Number 1
Mariangela Boscan, Claret Cuberos, Jennifer Drumond and Jennifer Godoy.
Group Number 2
Andrea Finol, Andrea Suarez, Mauricio Martinez and Jennifer Peña.
Group Number 3
Victor Aular
Group Number 4
Leonardo Reyes
Group Number 5
Henry Maldonado, Giovanna Hernandez and Claudia Flores.
Group Number 6
Emigdio Herrera and Vanessa Villamizar.
Stand 7
Maria marcano, Arnaldo Lugo and Patricia Zabala.
Stand 8
Manuel Marquez, Maria Bravo, Gustavo Rosales and Naykely Parra
Stand 9
Marysol Rincon, Juan Calixto, Andreina Alves, Andrea Ochoa, Claudia Briceño, Eddie Hernandez
The exhibition of the projects will take place in Second Life. Each group must have a stand to exhibit their proposal for the campaign in world (second life at URBE EFL Center in SL). The stand must include the products designed as well as a description of the project. Include the names of the participants and their avatars.
Students will post their projects in their blogs individually: products, description of the project, individual participation and their opinion of the project. Images and opinions of the experience in Second Life. Images of the Avatars and their names.
Well, this is going to be fun! See you in SL!

Yet another batch of Alarmist Emails that further erode the public’s view of the pseudo-scientists promoting the Gore and Socialist agendas.

First it was the temperature, then it was the climate, then it was the sea levels and now its bad storms and nasty weather. All these things and more are being displayed on a “wheel of alarm” that gets spun at every left-wing media opportunity.

And once again UVAs Mann and his associate Jones from ClimateGate 1.0 are exposed as Alarmist-operatives instead of professional scientists; for example:
“Any work we have done in the past is done on the back of the research grants we get – and has to be well hidden,” Jones writes in another newly released email. “I’ve discussed this with the main funder (U.S. Dept of Energy) in the past and they are happy about not releasing the original station data.”

Barney Frank’s SubPrime Departure
-
Roanoke Times, 11-29-11, Pg 3: Barney Frank, D-Mass, opts to retire after this term
-
Barney was indeed a powerful Democrat Congressman. So powerful that his wrong-headed and misguided drive extended homeownership to millions who could not afford “the cost of ownership” and who didn’t even understand what that means.
Barney used his position and power to intimidate and harangue both the government and private mortgage entities to massively lower the qualifications for a mortgage.
-
Once the qualification gate was open all types of exploiters jumped on the wagon with unique and creative and highly risky methods of issuing and bundling and selling these “doomed to failure” loans. As the “subprime” program went, so went the housing industry and then the banks and then the US economy.
What an incredible leader this Barney Frank turned out to be!
-
Barney Frank’s name is now synonymous with our economic crash just as Benedict Arnold’s name is synonymous with treason and Mudd with Lincoln’s assassination.
No kind words from John Kerry or any other left-wing looser will candy-coat the legacy that Barney Frank has left behind that has been six years in the making with no clear end in sight.

Bush Health Law helps lower cost of drugs
-
Roanoke Times, 11-28-11, Pg 1, 12: “ObamaCare” Health law helps lower cost of drugs.
-
The RT editors credit ObamaCare with the benefits of the Medicare Part-D drug program all the way to the small print at the end of the article way back in small print on Pg 12.
-
This program was disparaged by the Editors of the Roanoke Times and their Democrat friends throughout the legislative process and the programs introduction.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2009/08/roanoke-times-peddling-social.html
-
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/10/yet-more-gross-bias-and-slant.html
-
It was Bush and Republicans in Congress that spearheaded the senior drug program to help reduce the financial impacts of drug costs on seniors. The program covers 47 MILLION older and disabled people and about nine in 10 have some kind of prescription plan.
-
All this was done WITHOUT ObamaCare and the associated nationalization of the healthcare system by the Democrat Washington bureaucracy.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2011/10/obamacare-class-80-billion-program-dead.html
-
Congress had the ability, since the outset of Part-D, to give a uniform coverage to all Medicare recipients. The Democrat controlled Senate and Congress and Obama had ample opportunity to modify the program. The current ObamaCare plan sets out a schedule to do so by 2012.
-
So why does the Roanoke Times Headline present the main message of this story as crediting ObamaCare for “lowering cost of drugs”?
Why wasn’t Bush and the Republican Congress credited with this program up-front?
Why was ObamaCare and therefore Obama presented as the focus of Medicare Part-D?
The improvement of the benefits for the so called “doughnut hole” people is indeed good for those impacted by it, but it is in fact a small fraction of those who benefit from the Bush program.
-
Why can’t the Editorial Girls at the Roanoke Times present a balanced and fair picture instead of being a portal and media outlet for the Obama reelection committee?

Aspleaf's dream...nightmare?
Back in the day, Aspleaf predicted the future of orienteering as an olympic sport.
The race shown in the video isn't quite what Aspleaf predicted, but it isn't that far off....and it looks pretty cool.
I came across the video at Semidesiert-O. It is worth a look for the unusual orienteering maps.

My Craizee Kids
How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was nice, quiet as usual, which is how I like it. We have quality family time, and with the kids out on their own or in college these days are way to few and far between. After the meal I rounded the kids up and took a few pics. My kids are such goofballs, they all love getting their pics taken. Here's a nice pic of them (Tyler, Meagan and Bryan)
Here's them getting a bit Craizee
The last pic was followed by my real Muscle Men coming out!
So that was the fun portion of Thanksgiving. The not fun part came at night when I had to be rushed by ambulance to the ER. I thought I was having a heart attack! I am a first aid and CPR teacher and know the warning signs very well. Luckily they ruled out a heart attack and sent me for a sonogram to see my gallbladder. Ends up that I have several gallstones and need my gallbladder removed. Its been a hard weekend dealing with the pain, it figures this would happen to me on a long weekend where the doctors don't have office hours. Tomorrow morning I will be calling the surgeon and my family doctor to get this taken care of.
So if you don't see me for a while you will know why.
I wish you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season and new years!

Karst terrain contours
Here's some very nice terrain that needs to be mapped.
This is a small section of the terrain at Rock Bridge State Park near Columbia, Missouri. The map clip shows a small bit of terrain (about 750 meters wide).
The entire park is large, but the karst terrain covers just about 1 square kilometer (and only about half of the area is forested).

The Reptile Quilt For My Reptile Man
Have any of your kids ever become so enthralled by something that it's all they ever talk about. My oldest son, Bryan, was like that in 3rd grade. I was nuts for snakes, lizards, snakes, frogs and did I mention snakes? You get the jist of it right? All he talked about were these animals, every report for school was done on snakes or lizards, which he then read on the loudspeaker at the school. I spent many afternoons in the herpertarium with him so he could see the snakes they had there.
So when I saw Meadow Friends by Deb Strain I knew that I had to make Bryan a quilt with it. I used the Boy Jelly Roll for the Key to Friendship Quilt Along. Earlier this week I basted, quilted and bound it so I had it to give Bryan when he came home for Thanksgiving.
I had no trouble figuring out how to quilt this...it spoke to me right away. I quilted around the key part of each block. I just had no idea how difficult it would be to do the quilting that way. I was turning the quilt every 2" - 5". Here's a closeup of the back to show you the quilting.
And Bryan loved it! As a matter of fact Tyler liked it too, I guess I forgot how much he loved frogs when he was younger. I have a big quilt planned for Tyler so he will not be forgotten :)
Here's a pic of Bryan snuggling with the quilt a few minutes ago.
Have you finished anything lately?

Roanoke Times Wanders Far From Their Founders Message
-
Roanoke Times, 11-27-11, Pg Horiz 1: Roanoke Times at 125 years old.
Major one page spread with nice photogenic picture of the president and publisher.
First editorial, Nov 30, 1886, by Mr. Claytor, first owner and editor of the Roanoke Times outlines the paper’s philosophy including:
• It has no pets to reward and no enemies to put down.
• It will endeavor to be truthful.
• It is the mouthpiece of no order, corporation, party nor clique.
• To the fostering of our infant manufactories, to the development of our mineral resources and the cultivation of our fertile fields, must we direct our best efforts if we would make this Southern land of ours blossom as the rose.
-
It is likely that, from his view on high, Mr. Claytor has been reading the Roanoke Times and for the past five years The RoanokeSlant. We can be sure that his conclusion is that the Editors of the RT have wandered far from his 1886 objectives relative to economic, social and political issues and ideology and that the RoanokeSlant is reflecting the conscience of his editorial challenges; trying valiantly to adjust the current Editorial left-wing trajectory.
-
The 1500 items in the RoanokeSlant clearly have documented a long term inherit and pervasive slant and bias in not only the editorial and commentary content of the RT but in the selection, heading and location of news articles and content. The Editors commitment to the Progressive Liberal and Democrat ideology, programs and practitioners is clearly not consistent with Mr. Claytor’s direction for the Roanoke Times.
-
Perhaps this 125th Anniversary would be a good time for the Editors of the Roanoke Times to rededicate themselves to Mr. Claytor’s philosophy and objectives of equity and fairness and neutrality. The court oath is a good guide: the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
-
The major election year of 2012 will be a good opportunity and test of making a significant change in direction. Wish them well for it’s indeed difficult to change the wayward ways of designing women.
