Love Those Banners!!!

Hello! Sorry that I have not made a post in a number of days. I have been trying to visit your blogs for a longer length than during the Tea Party. In my last post I totally forgot to let you know WHO made the fabulous banner: "HOORAY"! The above photo shows the Lovely and Talented Caitlin!!! My Daughter : ) her blog is (http://www.Nice-etc.blogspot.com) and her etsy shop is (http://www.nice.etsy.com) . The picture was taken at the Renagade Craft Fair last September, in Chicago. There is another Renegade each year also, that one being in Brooklyn, New York. ( My Mom was born in Brooklyn, Michigan!).
I love the banners that she makes. She uses vintage fabrics that she scouts out. She truly has a great eye for design, creating art, and graphic design. Caitlin has also designed and constructed my blog!!! I just ask and she sees what my mind and heart want. It takes a loving heart to design like that! Oh, she also is fantastic at putting great "outfits" (*an archaic term) together. OK, I could go on and on forever about her, so let me tell you about my son! haha. I will save him for another time. The fact is, I am truly truly blessed to be Caitlin and Doug's mom. : ) xoxo, Mary

Final Project

Create your own blog to showcase your best work!

A good way to show your portfolio is by using a blog and posting it in the Internet. The process of putting together a writing portfolio will also give you the chance to reflect on your own work and how you have grown as a writer.

For our project you'll organize your work chronologically.

You should include:

1. A title for your blog.

2. An introductory paragraph focusing on what you did during your English writing class. As you write your introductory essay, keep in mind these guidelines:

Here are some questions to consider when writing your introduction. You do not need to answer all of the questions but you can use them to guide your writing:

• What is your opinion about your writing course?
• Write a general description of your classes. What did you wrote about? What kind of paragraph writing did you learn to write?
• What exactly are you writing about in your blog? Include a table of contents listing the title, category, and date of each piece.

3. Include an entrance per unit and discuss each piece individually. Add pictures, links, or videos to illustrate your work. Here are some guiding questions. Choose one or two to address per unit discussed:

• What's the unit about?
• What did you learn in this unit?
• What skills did you work on when working in this unit?
• How did you brainstorm, revise, and edit?
• Who gave you feedback and help?

4. A conclusion reflecting on what you learned from reading the compilation of your works. Use these guidelines as you write your conclusion:

Read all of your pieces.

Here are some questions to consider when you write your project conclusion:
• Reflect on your work during the semester.
• What subject matter did you like the most? What didn't you like? What subject was interesting or boring to write about?
• What do you think about having your classes in the lab and writing a blog to showcase your work?
• How have you evolved as a writer and English student?
• What are your future writing plans?

Well, have fun working and reflecting on what you have done during our time together.
It's been really nice to have been your teacher!

You should include:

2. An introductory paragraph focusing on what you did during your EFL English class. As you write your introductory paragraph, keep in mind these guidelines:

Here are some questions to consider when writing your introduction. You do not need to answer all of the questions but you can use them to guide your writing:

• What's the unit about?
• What did you learn in this unit?
• What skills did you work on when working in this unit?

What subject was interesting or boring to you?
• What do you think about having your classes in the lab and writing a blog to showcase your work?
• Describe the tools you used to learn: Computer lab, mind maps, composition writing, interviews, drawings, tutoring, etc.
• How have you evolved as a writer and English student?
• What are your future plans about learning English?

Remember you’re posting your work to the world. It’s very important you check and double check your work before post it to your blog.

What is the editing stage?

The editing stage is when you check your paragraph for mistakes and correct them.

Grammar and Spelling
1. Check your spelling.
2. Check your grammar.
3. Read your composition again.
4. Make sure each sentence has a subject.
5. See if your subjects and verbs agree with each other.
6. Check the verb tenses of each sentence.
7. Make sure that each sentence makes sense.

Well, have fun working on your project.

Hello! Welcome to our Final project blog!

Hi, there! Welcome to our Class Blog!

Here you'll find all the instructions for our final projects! For our final project we'll get our own blogs and post all we have learned and have done during our English Courses! Let's show the world our work.

The project has 3 steps:

Step 1. Collect all your work

First thing is to do is to collect all your work during the semester. When we talk about your work, we're talking about:

Step 2. Check your work with TUTORS

Now, that you have collected all your work... you have to check it with your tutor ( go to Building F, first floor and look for the ESL Center tutors at URBE).

These are Antonio, Madwin and Guillermo.

Step 3. Edit your work.

After you have check your work with URBE's tutors...

  1. write them in a word document or a power point document,
  2. edit them using the check speller. To find the ckeck speller go to Herramientas - idiomas -Ingles USA and correct your mistakes.
  3. Finally, your work is ready to be posted at your new blog.

Well, this is the first part. Make sure you follow all the steps. If you have any questions... let' me know. My online hours are evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Keep on shining! and keep posted for part 2 of our project

"We Love To Laugh"

302435809_47dc4da45e

What fun we all had over at Kari's Tea Party!!! I felt like the song in the movie Mary Poppins..."We Love To Laugh", long and loud and clear! (which by the way was sung during a tea party!) The guest list was amazing! And Kari planned so well, thinking out every detail so all went swimmingly well! And what a DELICIOUS array of treats!!! I have used more than my normal amount of experlatives and exclamation points the last two days!!! Kari's home is beautiful, warm, inviting, "HOME". My favorite definition for a home.
Kari, Thank You so much!

These flowers smell so fresh. The white Hyacinth I replant outside. I was amazed at how well they come back the following spring.
P3200009
Yum, Pepperidge Farm Cookies. My children and I would have tea parties together every so often. These cookies were THE TREAT! For our "tea" we would have apple juice and later hot cocoa.

P3200011

P3200010
I improvised this cupcake recipe of Giada De Laurentis', of Everyday Italian. I used a box cake recipe! Yes, I did, but it is very good. They were out of Heavy Cream so I used what I had... Redi Whip! It all saved time. I do recommend whipping up your own whipped cream. You will end up with a better flavor.
More tea?

Lemon and Lemonaid

AVANT

P3180132

When we purchased this chandelier we were close to launching our kitchen remodeling project. This included hardwood floors for the kitchen, side hall, and diningroom, and refinishing the front livingroom floor. Loads of dust clouds would be upon us. So we didn't put up the light. Now we are ready to install the light and I find that it no longer fits (perhaps it never did, but the price was right). SO...last night I faux painted it. The most difficult part was deciding a gold leaf look or a silver leaf look. Gold won. The photo does show the detail of layers, but it is there. I am happy.

APRES

P3180135

Sometimes using what you have works out pretty well. Do you have some lemonaid to stir up?
I am excited to be attending a virtual Tea Party over at Artsymama. She is wonderful to be inving us in!

Luck O' The Irish

P3160129

Happy St. Patrick Day! Yesterday while working on some new items for the shop the radio was on, talking about St. Patrick. I did have an idea that he was not really a saint, but what a man he was...(please read the following with an Irish brog)....
He was actually British, kidnapped at a young age and brought to Ireland to be a slave! His duty was to tend the sheep. Tending sheep gives you quite some time on your hands. He would gaze at the grass and up to the stars and talk to the heavens. This is the way he came to know God! There came a time when he escaped form Ireland. He was able to get passage on a ship with very rough ,blood drinking, roughes. Now he did not partake in these events, and he was left to be much of the time. After sometime they found themselves on a lonely island. With starvation looming around, these men called out "hey there Christian". The men gave him this name because of his beliefs. "If your God is so great, ask him to give us food." Christian put forth a prayer. Well no sooner did these men turn around when a small group of wild boar appeared before them. They had plenty to eat from then on and they even shared a small portion with him. Christian made his way back to Ireland after hearing God speak to him. God asked him to return for there would be no other way that he could possibly return without being killed, for he was a slave that had escaped! He had the protection of God and was able to bring Christ the Lord to Ireland! For before this there was only a small pocket of Christians near Dublin that had learned of God from traders. The Irish gave him his name, St. Patrick. Also, he used the shamrock to explain the Holy spirit in one body! Three petals representing: the father, the son, and Holy spirit.
So there is what I now know of St. Patrick. HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!

100's of Chicks

P3040074

I really like these little chicks. I especially like the tiny ones. When I was vey little, we
lived on a farm for a couple of years. My parents rented 1/2 of an Italianate home. It
was very big and nice. The owner of this home had a great deal of land and lived down
the lane. Between our house and his lived his mother, Grandma Bunny, and his
younger sister, Helen. Helen was grand and always was fun. She had Downs Syndrome
and had defeated the odds of the time, living a long life. Our mom would walk us down
the lane to their home where warm cookies would be waiting. Oh, did I mention that
Grandma Bunny and Helen lived in the side of a hill with a grass roof!!! Just like
bunnies! They had a nice big picture window on both sides of the door. Of coarse they
were expecting us and Helen would always take us out to show us her chickens, while
my mom would visit with Grandma Bunny. Helen would take us to the big fenced area
with the chicken coop, and slip inside and feed the chickens. Always at some point (it
seemed to me) she would "accidentally " let all the chicks out of the pen. All of those
cute little chicks scurrying everywhere. Sounds of joy and excitement filled the air.
Helen loved our reaction, and we loved her gift to us everytime. See, I do remember
Grandma Bunny calling, in her soft voice, after Helen, "Don't let the chickens get out,
Helen,"

Spring Time In...

P3100115

Aurora. It is a very beautiful day here, 56 degrees! The beautiful tulips are from my husband. He surprised me with them last thursday evening. He does this every so often. Pink tulips are one of my favs, pink and white roses are my others. As I am working on this, the scent of the tulips is delightful.
I would like to send a huge thankyou to all of you for coming to my little part of blogland. Especially artsymama, lilli, vickie, and jennaleejackson. And of corse to my daughter and son. Artsymama was the very first "non-family" person to comment so she will be recieving a special gift of thanks this week in the mail.
I do not quite know how to trully get back to those who have commented, so this is my avenue for now.
To jennaleejackson: I will be posting more pictures of our home in the future. I like the style of Rachel Ashwell of Shabby Chic. (My first destination when we moved here). My computer is also in this room.
To lilli: My talented, lovely, and patient, daughter, Cailtin has done ALL of the graphics for my blog and etsy shop.
To vickie: I am happy to meet you also. It is a little scarry sometimes, but I definately agree about the challege benifits. Where is your blog?
and to Artsymama: I make the entire wreath...it takes a little time. Of course the most fun is the "icing" I may also make a "Prom Dress" collection. Which was my first inspriation. I hope to join your "challenges" etc...when I know I actually could have something to offer all of you. All of your work is AMAZING.

I just heard the news about the fire in Orange County. CA. I believe it started by a car fire. It is hot and dry there and the Santa Anna winds are blowing. My prayers go out to all of you there.
