I started on the Pie Crust Pile Up pattern yesterday, I chose to do the Thick Crust version and make a twin size. It goes together so easily, if I had the time yesterday I could have finished just about all of it.
One thing I learned from Gail at The Berry Patch is how to press long strips that have been sewn together without the strips ending up wonky. This is my take on that for this specific project:
1. Set the seam by pressing the seam the way it was sewn, right sides together. This makes the thread less bulky.
2. Flip the fabric over so the right side is down.
3. I started on the right side and gently tugged the top where the diagonal would meet the top strip with my left hand. This was just to keep it straight, do not tug hard or it will be wonky. Then I pressed with the iron diagonal on the fabric. There were 4 strips sewn together and the diagonal helped to press them apart.
4. Flip the fabric over and gently press the front. There you go, non wonky strips.
OK now for the fun stuff...
