Terrain Quilt #1

If you are looking for the Quilt Design Wizard giveaway click here.

Did I show you the one of quilts that I'm making with my hoard of Terrain? I recently got the Scrap Basket Sensations book and I fell in love with the quilt on the cover, it's called Picnic. I knew the colors in Terrain would look great in it plus its FQ friendly so its the perfect pattern to use my Kate Spain Designer Select FQ kit with.

Over the past few weeks I have begun to understand the type of quilter I have become. I am pretty fearless, I don't shy away from many patterns. But I also have realized that scrappy doesn't work for me. I need order and my colors to be cohesive. Every time I try to be scrappy I end up spending way too much time making sure nothing touches something it shouldn't. I am sure embracing this quirk will make me a happier quilter. I would also like to thank my friends Carolyn and Tiffany for keeping me on the straight and narrow and not letting me buy fabric for a scrappy project. They both knew that I would not have been happy making it. Where would I be without you gals?

Armed with this new knowledge about myself I started planning my quilt. When I look at this quilt I see flowers, I know there are circles there too, but I saw flowers. After some quick quilt math (say that 3 times fast) I realized that I could get 1 flower from each FQ in the kit. And I wanted to make 16 flowers so I got a few more FQs, something that I love love love getting. And I picked out different background fabric then I usually do. I'm not sure if you can tell but it's not plain old solid white...there are white curly q's on the fabric (I know it's sad but its a first for me). If I had decided top make this scrappy the FQ kit I had would have been enough.

Anyway, I finished sewing 16 flowers today. At first I was having trouble matching every point. They seemed to be everywhere. Once I slowed down I got the hang of it. Here's 12 of the squares on my tiny design wall.

What do you think? Do you see the block that's different? I'm calling that a design decision. I had thought to make all the flowers with a different center, but I didn't want to add any more triangles to the mix. Now I have to decide if I am going to just sew the flowers next to each other or use sashing and cornerstones. What do you think?

Have you gotten your hands on some Terrain yet? I'd love to see what you are making.

Sha :)
