Why make a map?

I've spent a fair amount of time in the last couple of months working on a sprint orienteering map of an area near my house.Why bother?I'm certainly not going to turn a profit. I'm not getting paid to do the work. When we use the map, the orienteering club will break even. But that's only because I'm donating my hours.
